ALL Teesside: Engagement Through Cross-curricular Contexts

 ‘Engagement Through Cross Curricular Contexts’ 

Session Monday 25th November 2013

The Engagement Through Cross Curricular Contexts’ session on the 25th November will be our first network meeting this academic and will be delivered free of charge by Issac Greaves.

Engagement Through Cross-curricular Contexts

The purpose of this workshop will be for share best practice of recently completed projects which have been successful in engaging even the most reluctant learners, and will hopefully inspire attendees.  The main examples will include combinations of the following cross-curricular and CLIL (Content, Language and Integrated Learning) projects;

  • French and Physical Education

  • Spanish, Physical Education, Music, Creative Writing

  • Spanish, Art, ICT and Food Technology (with potential for Music)

  • Spanish and Music

  • Spanish, Food Technology and ICT

  • Spanish and Creative Writing (KS3/4)

In this workshop these projects will be explored and examples of good practice (and resources) around a variety of topics from Year 7 onwards shared. The workshop will be delivered in English; examples will be mostly in Spanish but are easily adaptable to other languages.  Where time permits, other examples of engaging resources, activities will be shared.

Issac Greaves is a teacher of modern foreign languages at Ormesby School in Middlesbrough and is a doctoral student at Newcastle University, currently in his third year. His interests are engaging reluctant learners through innovative language projects and CLIL. He has been an active member of ALL since he became a qualified teacher in 2011, founding ALL Teesside as an NQT.

Resources show and tell. Please bring copies of any resources you are happy to share relating to cross curricular contexts, and spend a minute or two talking about them. It may be appropriate to bring some cultural christmassy resources to share with the impending holiday season.
